Today, Ontario and New Brunswick are implementing its COVID-19 vaccine passport systems, requiring individuals to show proof of vaccination to enter non-essential indoor spaces. People who are eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine will need to show a digital or printed out copy of their proof of vaccination. The vaccination receipts can be accessed through the province’s government website.
Residents will need to show proof of vaccination at any non-essential business where large crowds gather, like restaurants, gyms, sports events, and clubs. Dr. Kieran Moore, Ontario’s chief medical officer hopes the new system will encourage more people to get vaccinated. Especially, people between the ages of 20 to 39, as they have the highest infection rate in Ontario.
Some people are very against the COVID-19 passport as they see it as an infringement on individual rights. Also, the system may burden more businesses that have already struggled throughout the pandemic. Along with showing proof of vaccination, to enter non-essential services you will need a physical government-issued identification.
