    On Friday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 727 new infections of COVID-19 signifying a slight increase from the previous days. Thursday there were 677 new cases, on Wednesday there were 463 new infections, and Tuesday there were 574 new cases. There are at least 308 people in Ontario hospitals due to the virus and 193 of those individuals are in intensive care units.

    The seven-day rolling average dropped to 655 today as it was 724 at this point last week. The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 1.8 per cent as it processed 36,855 tests in the last 24-hour period. 557 of the new cases today were among those who are not vaccinated, partially vaccinated, or have an unknown status. Also, 170 of the cases were found in people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19

    The province is currently in Step 3 of its COVID-19 reopening plan, Indoor dining, gyms, hair salons, movies, and more are allowed to anyone eligible for a vaccine passport. There were 144 new cases in Toronto, 54 cases in York Region, 83 cases in Peel Region, and 66 in Hamilton. Middlesex-London logged 33 new cases, Durham Region logged 35, and all other regions reported fewer than 30 cases.
