Organizers said on Monday, certain spectators may be invited to watch the Beijing 2022 Olympic test events. This could possibly indicate what to expect at next year’s Olympic Winter Games. Officials in Beijing refused to give any further details on the plans for spectators and the COVID-19 requirements for buying tickets.

Yau Hui, the Director of Beijing 2022’s Venue Management Department said “If conditions allow we will arrange for spectators to attend certain competitions,” He was referring to test events starting this week at the National Speed Skating Oval. International travelers taking part in test events must have received a COVID-19 vaccine and stick to the restrictions China has set in place.

The international event will have a presence of over 2,000 participants and act as a “massive test” for organizers, explained Huang Chun the Deputy Director of Beijing 2022’s COVID-19 Prevention and Control Office. Tickets for the Winter Olympics will be sold to people from mainland China only. Unvaccinated athletes must spend 21 days quarantined ahead of the Games, according to the IOC.
