As it has almost been a year since the vaccination rollout in Ontario started, many are wondering how their COVID-19 vaccine is holding up. 11-months ago Canada started injecting its population with Health Canada approved COVID-19 vaccinations. With all the different information on the internet, many people want to know if they need to get a booster shot.
However, people need to understand there is a difference between a booster shot and a third dose. If you got vaccinated in Canada, you either received Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, or AstraZeneca in a two-dose regimen. A third dose would be necessary for people who may not have built a strong enough response to fight the virus.
According to the National Advisory Committee on Immunization, it has identified two populations that would most benefit from a third dose. First, is elderly people in long-term care and those who have specific conditions that make them immunocompromised. A booster shot would be recommended to those who had a liked fulsome immune response to the regular two-dose vaccine regimen.
