Tesla owner Elon Musk commented on United Nations officials’ efforts to help solve world hunger in a Twitter post. Being the richest person in the world, Musk said he will sell $6 billion US worth of Tesla stock and donate the proceeds to the United Nations food agency. However, the agency will have to show how the money would be able to solve world hunger.
The Twitter post read “If WFP can describe on this Twitter thread exactly how $6 billion will solve world hunger, I will sell Tesla stock right now and do it.” This statement came after UN World Food Program executive director David Beasley had an interview with CNN. Where he challenged Musk and other billionaires to step up on “a one-time basis” to help end starvation.
Beasley explained in the interview that “$6 billion to help 42 million people that are literally going to die if we don’t reach them… It’s not complicated,” According to Forbes, that would approximately be two per cent of Musk’s wealth, which totals close to $300 billion US.
