Ontarians will have to turn their clocks back soon, but one politician is hoping it could be for one of the last times. Almost a year ago the Ontario government passed legislation that would put an end to the bi-annual changing of the clock. Making daylight time permanent in the province allows residents to experience more sunlight during the winter evenings. It will still remain dark in the mornings until nearly 9 a.m. in December.
However, in order for this legislation to come into effect, there is a big catch, both Quebec and New York will have to pass the same legislation. Jeremy Roberts, MPP for Ottawa West, told CTV News “We’re getting closer,… I don’t think I’ll be able to get anything done in time for this year’s fall back, but maybe in time for Spring-forward next year.”
Daylight savings time will change in Ontario at 2 a.m. on November 7, which will be bringing in darker evenings. According to some experts, certain people can experience a shock similar to jet lag during the change. December 12 will be the shortest day of the year, with the sun setting in Toronto at 4:44 p.m.
