Wang Yaping became the first woman from China to conduct a spacewalk to work 6 hours outside the space station. This is just one part of Wang’s six-month mission to the country’s space station. Fellow astronaut Zhai Zhignag joined Wang in leaving the station’s main module on Sunday evening,
According to the China Manned Space Agency, the pair spent 6 hours outside installing equipment and carrying out tests using the station’s robotic service arm. The third member, Ye Guangfu assisted from inside the space station. The trio is the second crew to be on the permanent station and they arrived on October 16 for the longest stretch of time in space for Chinese astronauts.
The Tianhe module of the station should be connected next year to two other sections. The sections will be named Mengtian and Wentian. When fully complete the station should weigh roughly 66 tons, which is much smaller than the International Space Station, The ISS launched its first module in 1998 and weighs around 450 tons.
