On Thursday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 642 new infections of COVID-19 signifying a large increase from yesterday. Today marks the highest number of COVID-19 cases since October 9 when 654 cases were reported. Currently, there are at least 168 people in hospitals due to COVID-19 and 64 of them are fully vaccinated.
The seven-day rolling average rose to 532 today as it was at 383 at this point last week. The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 2.1 per cent as it processed over 29,814 tests in the last 24-hour period. Ontario has announced on Monday that 85 per cent of eligible Ontarians aged 12 and up are considered to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
The province released its vaccine passport on September 22, making non-essential service available to those who are fully vaccinated. There were 74 new cases in Toronto, 61 cases in Peel Region, and 62 cases in York Region. Ottawa reported 39 cases, Windsor-Essex logged 48 cases, Sudbury found 29, and Waterloo reported 26 new cases.
