As cases of COVID-19 rise in Australia, the government has decided to impose a lockdown for unvaccinated people aged 12 and up. The Australian leader considered it a “dramatic” step on Monday as the lockdown took effect at midnight on Monday.
The move applies to anyone unvaccinated or who hasn’t recently recovered from COVID-19. If you are 12 or older and fall under the two umbrellas, you will be prohibited from leaving your home except for basic activities such as working, grocery shopping, going for a walk, or getting vaccinated.
The lockdown is set to expire on November 24 as long as cases start to decline in a country of 8,9 million. The restrictions will not apply to children under the age of 12 as they officially cannot receive a vaccine yet. Officials in Australia can fine unvaccinated people up to roughly $2,080CDN.
