On Monday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 627 new infections of COVID-19 signifying a decrease from the weekend. There were 741 new cases on Sunday, 728 reported on Saturday, and 793 new cases logged on Friday. Currently, there are 136 patients in hospitals due to COVID-19 and 133 patients are being treated in intensive care units.
The seven-day rolling average rose to 656 today as it was at 573 at this point last week. The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 3.4 per cent as it processed over 19,552 tests in the last 24-hour period. Ontario announced last week that 85 per cent of eligible Ontarians aged 12 and up are considered to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
The province released its vaccine passport on September 22, making non-essential service available to those who are fully vaccinated. There were 92 new cases in Toronto, 53 cases in Peel Region, and 38 cases in York Region. Ottawa reported 32 cases, Windsor-Essex reported 28, and Niagara logged 250.
