COVID-19 vaccinations for children five to eleven in Ontario were available to book as of 8 a.m. ET Tuesday. The province announced the news on Monday, and appointments can be made through Ontario’s online portal and contact centre. They can also be made through public health units that use internal booking systems and via select pharmacies.
There are roughly one million children that are eligible for a vaccine in this age group. For a child to be eligible, they must be turning five in 2021, and be born in 2016. The province will be using NACI’s advice and spread out doses by eight weeks. During the morning conference, Minister Christine Elliot said “we should be able to start getting shots into little arms by about Thursday this week,”
Christine also explained that a third of Ontario’s cases are currently being found in school-aged children. Canada received a batch of first doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for children on Sunday. Families should bring a booking confirmation code or email, an Ontario health card, and the child’s immunization record if available.
