Starting November 30, individuals looking to travel by plane, train, or ship in Canada will no longer be able to use a negative COVID-19 test, meaning they need to be fully vaccinated. Those wishing to travel in Canada using the listed transportation will need to provide proof of vaccination before boarding.
The travel rules were announced by the federal government at the beginning of October and it officially was implemented on October 30. But there was a month-long transition period that allowed people who were unvaccinated to travel if they provided proof of a negative COVID-19 molecular test within 72 hours of travel.
Travel Canada said there will be “very limited exemptions” to the rule such as medical reasons to not be vaccinated. Some airlines were selecting travellers departing from Canadian airports on a random basis to show evidence of vaccination. Air Canada and WestJet said they will have a system implemented on November 30 for customers to submit vaccination status ahead of time.
