On Thursday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 959 new infections of COVID-19 signifying an increase from yesterday. With Tuesday being the exception, Ontario has seen more than 700 infections daily over the last week. Currently, there are at least 291 people in hospitals for COVID-19, and 155 of the patients are in intensive care units.
The seven-day rolling average rose to 851 today as it was at 692 at this point last week. The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 2.9 per cent as it processed over 38,480 tests in the last 24-hour period. Ontario announced its first two cases of the new Omicron variant on Sunday.
The last time the province reported cases over 900 was on Sunday. More than 86 per cent of eligible people in Ontario are fully vaccinated. There were 118 new cases logged in Toronto, 91 cases in Windsor-Essex, and 75 in Peel Region. The province also reported 32 cases in Sudbury, 59 in Ottawa, and 53 in York Region.
