At one point during the game on Thursday night, Memphis had a 78-point advantage but by the end of the game, they were up by 73-points. The game was long decided and Memphis starters were placed on the bench early on. The starters acted as cheerleaders on the bench as John Konchar got a steal and headed for a dunk.
Konchar’s right-handed dunk gave the Grizzlies a 145-67 lead over Oklahoma City Thunder with 3:02 left in the game. At that point, a new franchise record for points in a game. The match ended with a score of 152-79 which smashed the NBA record for the largest margin of victory.
After the match, Konchar said “at that moment, I didn’t know it was a franchise record,… I just kind of saw the lane, and I dunked on it.” Cleveland held the last record with a 68-point win over Miami. The Thunder coach explained after the game that “tonight is not necessarily who we are,… I think we’ve definitely shown that from a competitive standpoint. This isn’t indicative of who our team is.”
