On Tuesday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 7,951 new infections of COVID-19 signifying a decrease from the previous days. Today is the second day the province is reporting fewer than 10,000 new COVID-19 cases for the first time in 2022. There are at least 3,220 patients in hospitals for COVID-19 and 477 people are in intensive care units.
54 per cent of the 3,220 hospitalizations are people who are in hospital primarily due to COVID-19. The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 24.4 per cent as it processed over 45,451 tests in the last 24-hour period. Last week, the province announced anyone aged 18 and older can book an appointment for a booster shot starting today.
According to Ontario, the province reported 9,893 cases have been resolved as of Tuesday. There were 1,659 new cases logged in Toronto, 844 cases in York Region, and 1,143 in Peel Region. The province also reported 373 cases in Halton Region, 450 in Ottawa, and 546 in Waterloo.
