The province’s Education Minister Stephen Lecce is scheduled to make an announcement about the return to school for in-person learning. He will speak at Queen’s Park with the province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore at 1:30 p.m. The announcement can be streamed live at CTVNewsToronto.ca.
The news conference comes only two days after the premier’s office confirmed that students will return to in-person learning on January 17. Students in Ontario have been learning virtually since January 5 because of a surge in COVID-19 and staffing shortages. There are a number of COVID-19 vaccines clinics in the Greater Toronto Area offering appointments for education and child-care workers this week.
The government also said they will be giving more non-fitted N95 masks to staff. They will also be adding 3,000 HEPA filter units to schools across the GTA. The government also changed the list of COVID-19 symptoms that would require a student to isolate.
