On Wednesday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 9,782 new infections of COVID-19 signifying an increase from the previous days. Today is the third day the province is reporting fewer than 10,000 new COVID-19 cases for the first time in 2022. There are at least 3,448 patients in hospitals for COVID-19 and 505 people are in intensive care units.
54 per cent of the 3,448 hospitalizations are people who are in hospital primarily due to COVID-19. The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 20.0 per cent but warned that due to testing restrictions, the number of cases reported daily is an underestimate. Anyone aged 18 and older can book an appointment for a booster shot in Ontario.
According to Ontario, the province reported 9,893 cases have been resolved as of Tuesday. There were 1,675 new cases logged in Toronto, 964 cases in York Region, and 1,060 in Peel Region. The province also reported 434 cases in Halton Region, 588 in Ottawa, and 471 in Waterloo.
