On Tuesday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 7,086 new infections of COVID-19 however, the number is an estimate due to backlogs. Yesterday, Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr.Kieran Moore said he has more hope that case growth appears to be slowing in hospitals and ICUs. There are 4,183 patients in hospitals for COVID-19 and 580 people are in intensive care units.
Of the cases reported today, more than 5,400 of those cases were identified in people who are fully vaccinated. The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 24.5 per cent as it processed over 31,355 tests in the last 24-hour period. Last week, the province announced anyone who is immunocompromised can book an appointment for 4th dose booster.
According to Ontario, 91.4 per cent of Ontarians over the age of 12 have one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 88.7 per cent have two doses. There were 1,628 new cases logged in Toronto, 545 cases in York Region, and 1,106 in Peel Region. The province also reported 418 cases in Halton Region, 333 in Ottawa, and 327 in Hamilton.
