On Friday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 7,165 new infections of COVID-19 however, the number is an estimate due to backlogs. On Monday, Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr.Kieran Moore said he has more hope that case growth appears to be slowing in hospitals and ICUs. There are 4,114 patients in hospitals for COVID-19 and 590 people are in intensive care units.
The province said that 263 of the people in ICU are fully vaccinated, 208 are unvaccinated and 16 are partially vaccinated. . The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 17.7 per cent as it processed over 41,538 tests in the last 24-hour period. Last week, the province announced anyone who is immunocompromised can book an appointment for 4th dose booster.
According to Ontario, 11,566 more cases of the disease have been resolved as of Wednesday. There were 1,269 new cases logged in Toronto, 516 cases in York Region, and 957 in Peel Region. The province also reported 377 cases in Halton Region, 406 in Ottawa, and 353 in Waterloo.
