On Wednesday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 5,368 new infections of COVID-19 however, the number is an estimate due to lack of testing. Ontario passed over 1,000,000 lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases on Monday. There are at least 4,016 patients in hospitals for COVID-19 and 608 people are in intensive care units.
According to Health Minister Christine Elliott, of those in the ICU about 83 per cent of patients have been admitted due to COVID-19. The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 14.1 per cent as it processed over 33,600 tests in the last 24-hour period. As of Monday, 91.6 per cent of Ontarians over the age of 12 have one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and 88.9 per cent are considered fully vaccinated.
Since December 2020, more than 30,000,000 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the province. There were 891 new cases logged in Toronto, 339 cases in York Region, and 765 in Peel Region. The province also reported 322 cases in Simcoe-Muskoka, 322 in Ottawa, and 202 in Hamilton.
