The 2022 Juno awards are scheduled for May 15 in Toronto and will be the first in-person version of the awards show since 2019. Simu Liu was raised in Toronto and has gained fame through being the star of Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings and Kim’s Convenience. The Juno awards were forced to cancel in 2020 due to the pandemic and went digital in 2021.
In a news release, Liu explained “It’s an absolute honour to be hosting the 51st annual Juno awards,… Canadian entertainment and culture hold a very important place in my heart and getting the chance to experience the festivities in my hometown make the experience even more special to me.”
Liu’s role in Shang-Chi was Marvel’s m, most recent superhero movie franchise to debut a new character. The movie came out after Marvel’s most reliable stable of superstar talent left the series following the release of Avengers: Endgame. The movie Shang-Chi earned more than $400 million US worldwide and smashed COVID-stagnant box office records.
