Ontario has lifted some COVID-19 restrictions in long-term care homes Monday, allowing residents to participate in day trips outside their facilities. At the end of December, the Ontario government banned general visitation and social outings for residents in long-term care. However, residents were allowed two “designated caregivers” that could come to visit.

Starting February 7, the province is allowing residents to appoint an additional two caregivers, but only two people can visit at a time. Residents that have been triple vaccinated will be able to go on social day trips. The government provided an outline for when other restrictions will be lifted on Friday morning

As of February 21, anyone aged 5 or older who has been double vaccinated will be allowed to visit residents in long-term care homes. Three people at a time will be able to visit residents as well. Day trips will be permitted to any resident regardless of vaccination status, but those who have three will be permitted to have overnight absences.
