On Monday, the Canadian women’s hockey team beat the Russian Olympic Committee 6-1 in a game where both teams wore masks under their cages. Sarah Fillier, Jamie Lee Rattray, Sarah Nurse, Rebecca Johnston, Erin Ambrose, and captain Marie-Philip Poulin scored for Canada. This caps Pool A against the United States in a battle of 3-0 teams Tuesday.
Canada’s goaltender Emerance Maschmeyer stopped 11 of 12 shots for the win in her first match of the tournament. Anna Shokhina scored the only goal for Russia. Their starting goalie, Daria Gredzen halted 30 shots over half a game before getting pulled out for the second-string goalie. Canada had a very dominant performance but nothing compared to their early wins over Switzerland and Finland.
The game against the Russian Olympic Committee had some odd circumstances. Both teams warmed up as usual, but on their return for player introductions, Canada did not return. After an hour of delay, both teams stepped on the ice at Wukesong Sports Centre wearing KN95 masks. There was no explanation immediately given for the circumstance.
