On Wednesday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 3,162 new infections of COVID-19 however, the number is an estimate due to testing restrictions. The number of patients in the Ontario intensive care unit with COVID-19 reached its lowest level since early January. There are at least 2,059 patients in hospitals for COVID-19 and 449 people are in intensive care units.
As of Tuesday, 92.1 per cent of Ontarians over the age of 12 have one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 89.5 per cent have two doses. The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 11.9 per cent as it processed over 22,906 tests in the last 24-hour period. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the province has identified 1,061,403 lab-confirmed cases of the coronavirus.
Since December 2020, more than 31,000,000 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the province. There were 482 new cases logged in Toronto, 143 cases in York Region, and 283 in Peel Region. The province also reported 103 cases in Windsor- Essex, 244 in Ottawa, and 123 in the Niagara Region.
