In a thrilling match, Canada beat the United States 3-2 to claim the women’s hockey gold medal. Canada’s team captain Marrie-Philp Poulin scored twice and their goalie, Ann-Renée Desbiens made 36 saves. Sarah Nurse also broke the record for most points accumulated in a single Olympic Games. Canada avenged its loss to the Americans in 2018.
Poulin has now scored her third Olympic gold medal-winning goal and she said “it’s just so good. It’s a great feeling. It was one hell of an effort,… This is redemption.”
Canada has more medal-winning Olympians in other events as well. Marielle Thompson won a silver medal in the women’s ski cross. This is her second career Olympic medal in the event. From Whistler B.C., the 29-year-old had a slow start but persevered to claim second place. She made a daring pass on the final turn to keep Canada’s Olympic medal streak alive.
