The federal government has been facing pressure to drop the pre-arrival test requirements. On Monday, Canada started easing travel measures for people entering the country. Certain restrictions will remain in place, such as the pre-arrival COVID-19 test requirement. This means returning home from abroad can still be complicated and expensive.
Over the past year, the federal government enforced that travellers entering Canada needed to provide proof of a negative molecular test. The test had to be within 72 hours of their departing flight or planned arrival at a land border. As of today, people can choose to take a rapid antigen test, which is cheaper and more convenient than the PCR test.
The Canada Border Services Agency said on Friday that the test must be taken on more than one day before a travellers departing flight or planned arrival at the land border. People must take the test in the country they’re departing from. The brand must of the test be one authorized for travellers.
