Almost all of Ontario’s major COVID-19 mandates and restrictions will be lifted this week as the province shifts to pre-pandemic life. The province has been in and out of lockdown since Premier Doug Ford announced a state of emergency in March 2020. The most recent round of public health measures went into effect just after the Christmas holidays.
Ontario then began reopening just over a month ago, allowing gyms and indoor dining to resume at 50 per cent capacity. The province was supposed to follow a three-step plan that was supposed to be separated by at least 21 days. This changed as the province announced an expedited timeline in early February.
The biggest change this week is the lifting of Ontario’s proof of vaccination requirement for indoor non-essential settings. Businesses can still choose to keep the mandate active as the government gave them the option. Vaccination requirements will still be required at long-term care homes and health care settings.
