On Friday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 2,085 new infections of COVID-19 however, the number is an estimate due to testing restrictions. There are at least 821 patients in hospitals for COVID-19 and 262 people are in intensive care units. The province reported fewer than 1000 people in hospital with COVID-19 six days in a row.
Last week, 92.1 per cent of Ontarians over the age of 12 had one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 89.5 per cent had two doses. The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 10.7 per cent as it processed over 15,925 tests in the last 24-hour period. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the province has identified more than 1,105,692 lab-confirmed cases of the coronavirus.
Since December 2020, more than 31,000,000 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the province. There were 316 new cases logged in Toronto, 72 cases in York Region, and 115 in Peel Region. The province also reported 145 cases in Ottawa, 198 in Simcoe-Muskoka, and Windsor-Essex reported 113 new cases.
