Financial documents revealed the exclusive ski club Georgian Peaks received $1.4 million in federal COVID relief after a “record” year of sales. The ski club near Collingwood, Ontario paid $13,000 of income tax as they opened a new $13-million lodge. The ski club has a history of producing winners and Olympic athletes.
Three of its racing alumni were competing at the Beijing Winter Games, One of the alumni Jack Crawford achieved an Olympic bronze model in the men’s combined event. Nicknamed “the peaks”, this private club has an initiation fee of 43,000 and received a surge in new members as their state-of-the-art lodge is soon to open.
Georgian Peaks also received $1.37 million in taxpayer-supplied federal COVID relief. This helped push the club to a $1.54-million budget surplus, almost three times greater than the year before. Financial documents for the fiscal year ending May 31, 2021, showed the club was given $1.203 million under Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy and another $166,885 from the Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy.
