For the second time ever, the Canadian Men’s national soccer team is on the verge of qualifying for the prestigious World Cup. Up to this point, the team has been in the class of CONCACAF and is sitting in the first place 11 matches into the final round of qualification. With only three matches to go, the squad doesn’t have one loss on its record.
Even if Team Canada loses the rest of their matches, it is plausible that they could still be part of the World Cup for the first time since 1986. The squad’s next match takes place Thursday night in Costa Rica and if they win, they’re in the World Cup. The last time they faced Costa Rica was last November in Edmonton. In that match, Canada’s Jonathan David scored the only goal to win 1-0.
Canada just needs 2 points to guarantee a spot at the World Cup in Qatar which means there are many paths they can take. If they tie Costa Rica, Canada would have to just tie either Jamaica or Panama. A loss to Costa Rica would mean they would either need to tie the last two matches or just win one of them.
