There was an outpouring of emotion that swept BMO Field after Team Canada won 4-0 over Jamaica. The Canadian men had clinched their first World Cup spot since 1986 on the BMO Field in Toronto on Sunday. There was a sellout crowd at the stadium and they celebrated with pure emotion after the referee blew his whistle.
Cyle Larin scored Canada’s first goal on Sunday in the 13th minute of the match. Larin is Canada’s all-time men’s leading scorer and he had to wipe back tears after scoring and celebrating with his team. Canada’s goalkeeper Milan Borjan dropped to his knees with his fists in the air and after said “this is just amazing, … Just an unbelievable feeling.”
Head coach John Herdman has now lifted both the men’s and women’s programs to their highest caliber. After the match, Herdman said “I’m just a snotty-nosed kid from Consett, County Durham, doing what I love, with people that I love, … And we did it. We ******* did it!”
