The transport minister is set to announce later today about permanent changes being made to provincial highways. The government will set speed limits of 110 kilometres per hour on six sections of Ontario highways. The changes were originally launched as a pilot project in 2019 to boost the speeds on certain area of highway across the province.
The Canadian Press learned that those speed limits from the project will be made permanent as of April 22. The Transportation Minister Caroline Mulroney is set to make an announcement later today. According to a statement, the sections of highways were specifically selected based on their ability to allow higher speeds.
The changes will apply to the Queen Elizabeth Way from Hamilton to St. Catharine’s, Highway 402 from London to Sarnia, Highway 417 from Ottawa to the Quebec border, as well as from the Kanata area to Arnprior, Highway 401 from Windsor to Tilbury, and Highway 404 from Newmarket to Woodbine.
