Bird enthusiasts in New Brunswick have spotted rare, large creatures of bird. At the begging of the month, amateur wildlife photographer Nick Landry said he felt like he was taking photos in the Serengeti. In actuality he was spending hours quietly in the yellowed grasses of the Tantramar Marsh, in New Brunswick.
Landry was able to capture several shots of the rare sandhill crane. He explained that “they’re almost like nothing you’ve seen before, … It almost felt like you were in Africa because they look … almost like an ostrich.” Reaching 1.3 metres tall, the sandhill cranes are contenders for the biggest bird in the province.
The bird has a blood-red forehead and Landry said they’re “very different … very different from anything I’ve seen.” The cranes are really not supposed to be there as the animal is most commonly found around the prairies and mid-western United States.
