    A couple from Saskatchewan say by the time they turn 40, they want to be able to turn off the gas meter at their house. Lachlan Wiebe and his wife, Brittany are trying to be fossil fuel free by 40 with zero waste and food sovereignty. The couple has 12 years to figure out how to develop the fossil fuel-free lifestyle.

    They will be doing it without holing up in an off-the-grid cabin or by relying on expensive retrofits to their home. The eco-conscious couple are taking this green walk one step at a time but with an affordability aspect. The couple said the world is changing and their goal is reasonable and attainable however help from the provincial government wouldn’t hurt. 

    The first step they took was the purchase of an electric vehicle roughly three months ago. The couple said they would spend close to 12 cents a kilometre on their old gas-powered vehicle. Now, the charging costs works out to be about 3 accents per kilometre.
