The exclusive star rating system known as the Michelin guide is finally coming to Canada. The guidebook for Toronto was inaugurated by Mayor John Tory at the Four Seasons Hotel along with two Michelin-star studded chefs. With this guidebook, Canada will finally have a Michelin star restaurant.

Tory explained “It’s something that has been a longtime coming, … with the rebirth of the city and following the pandemic, I think it;s something that is really to be celebrated and of course, it does mark a celebration of our food and cuisine ecosystem here.” In the near future, anonymous inspectors will be eating and evaluating Toronto restaurants.

The first round of stars are set to be revealed in the fall. The idea behind the Michelin guidebook dates back to 1889. That was when the Michelin brothers founded their sill-standing tire company and created a little red guide for travellers to take on their journeys.
