An entire baby mammoth named Nun cho ga was discovered frozen in the Yukon Gold Fields. The discovery is the 2nd in the world and the first in North America. On June 21 a little after noon, a young miner was working in Yukon’s Eureka Creek and was digging up muck until he struck something. He stopped to get his boss to take a look and he put a stop to the operation on the spot.
Within half an hour, Dr. Grant Zazula, the Yukon government’s paleontologist, received a picture of the mammoth. He said “I don’t know how to process it all right now, to be honest with you. It’s amazing,”
The miner happed to discover the first whole baby woolly mammoth in North America. Zazula explained “she has a trunk. She has a tail. She has tiny little ears. She has the little prehensile end of the trunk where she could use it to grab grass, … She’s perfect and she’s beautiful.”
