Over the July long weekend, Canadian airlines and airports claimed the top spots in flight delays over more than nearly any other country around the globe. On Saturday and Sunday, Air Canada ranked number 1 in delays that affected 700-plus trips in total. According to tracking service FlightAware, it accounted for about two-thirds of its flights.
Jazz Aviation, a Halifax-based company that givers regional service for Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge saw 53 per cent of flights delayed. This put them in the number 2 spot right alongside Greek regional airline Olympic Air. WestJet and budget subsidiary Swoop placed third and fourth at 55 per cent.
On the airport front, Toronto’s Pearson claimed the number 2 spot Sunday after 53 per cent of departures were held up. The number one spot went to Guangzhou’s main airport in China. Montreal’s airport placed sixth Sunday at 43 per cent of takeoffs delayed.
