With FIFA looking to let the host nation play Ecuador on November 20, the World Cup in Qatar could start one day earlier. The decision could be made within days by a committee composed of FIFA president Gianni Infantino and the heads of six continental soccer bodies.

The proposal would create a 29-day tournament instead of the long-planned 28 days. The original plan was favoured by Qatari officials and South American soccer body CONMEBOL. The World Cup is set to commence on November 21, with Senegal Facing Netherlands at 1 p.m. local time.

Qatar and Ecuador are also in group A and their match is scheduled the same day but six hours after. If they switch to the 29-day schedule, then Qatar and Ecuador would get an exclusive day to open its tournament with few European players.
