How to Choose the Right Area Rug for your Home

So, you’ve decided to replace your worn-out carpet with an area rug. That’s great! Area rugs can really help pull a room together, but you need to make sure you get the right one.

An area rug is a great alternative for carpets in rooms where there’s a lot of noise or traffic. If you have a house full of children, an area rug will stand up better to spills and crumbs than carpet. Area rugs can also help keep bedrooms warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer, since it’s usually only cover a small portion of your floor, unlike carpet.

    Location

Before you start shopping for an area rug, think about which room you want to put it in and where the rug will go. You want to make sure it’s big enough, but not too big. Measure the room before you head out to the store, and get an approximate size of the area rug you’d like. You can always go bigger or smaller, but this will give you a good starting point.

    Material

The first thing you should look at is the type of fiber it’s made out of. If your family has pets, be sure to get a rug that can be cleaned. Wool rugs are great for this because they’re naturally stain resistant, but you’ll have to vacuum them more often to keep them looking their best. If you don’t like vacuuming and spot cleaning, consider a sisal or jute rug. They’re great for hiding stains and spills and don’t show dirt as much. If you want a soft rug with a plush feel, look for an area rug that has a wool and cotton blend. Cotton is a good choice because it can stand up to a lot of traffic, but if you have pets, you might want to go with something else.

    Temperature

If the area rug is for a room that gets cold in the winter or hot in the summer, consider a rug that has a layer of polyester on the bottom. The polyester will prevent it from sliding around and will wick away moisture and stop mold from growing underneath.

    Colour

The colour of the rug is very important. It should look good with your furniture and the rest of the room. If you have a lot of light in the room, consider getting an area rug that will blend with it, so there aren’t dark spots in the rug. Darker colours will show more dirt, so if you have cats or kids, they might not be a good choice.

Now that you know what to look for, it’s time to go shopping! Remember to take your measurements with you and get your preferred size. After that, choose your colour, fiber, and style. Then you can sit back and relax while the perfect area rug is delivered right to your door.
