Canadian athletes Felix Auger-Aliassime and Leylah Fernandez have both advanced to the third round of the French Open. Both of them won straight-set victories on Wednesday.

Auger-Aliassime beat Argentine qualifier Camilo Ugo Carabelli 6-0, 6-3, and 6-4 to move onto the third round of the Paris major. From Montreal, the 21-year-old is the tournament’s ninth seed and he fired eight aces and converted on five of 10 breakpoints. His next match is on Thursday against Serbia’s Filip Krajinovic.

The other Montreal native Leylah Fernandez is seeded 17th on the women’s side of the tournament. She needed 71 minutes to beat Czech Katerina Siniakova 6-3, 6-2. Bianca Adreescu of Mississauga, Ontario is set to play later Wednesday against an athlete from Switzerland. Winner of that match will face Fernandez in the third round on Friday.
