The rollout of 5G mobile phone technology near American airports appears to be affecting flights worldwide. Airlines across the globe such as Emirates quickly cancelled and changed flights heading into the U.S.  on Wednesday. This comes after ongoing disputes about the rollout of 5G technology near American airports.

Specifically, the issue appeared to affect the Boeing 777, a long-distance, wide-body aircraft used by international carriers. Two different Japanese airlines both directly named the aircraft as being impacted by the 5G signals. The two airlines also announced cancellations and changes to their flight schedule.

Emirates said it would halt flights to Boston, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Miami, Newark, New Jersey, Orlando, Florida, San Francisco, and Seattle starting Wednesday. However, the Dubai-based airline will continue flights to Los Angeles, New York, and Washington. Emirates cited “operational concerns associated with the planned deployment of 5G mobile network services in the U.S. at certain airports.”
