On Tuesday a Malian woman gave birth to 9 babies, which was two more than the doctor had detected. Therefore, she joins a very small group of women who gave birth to nonuplets.

The mother’s name is Halima Cisse and she delivered the babies in Morocco. The West African Nation is very fascinated and its leader’s attention had been attracted to the births. In March doctors said Cisse needed specialist care in order to avoid complications. Authorities of the nation flew her to a more advanced hospital in Morocco, where she was able to deliver them.

Nonuplets are an extremely rare case that is usually accompanied by medical complications and some babies will often not survive. For this Malian mother of five girls and four boys, Mali’s health minister said “the newborns and mother are all doing well”.
