Amazon Canada announced they would be hiring up to 15,000 part-time and full-time employees, as well as boosting pay for front-line workers. Front-line workers will receive a pay increase to $21.65 if they were getting paid less previously. Amazon spread the news on Monday in a press release as it plans to increase its Canadian head count by about 60 per cent.

The wage increase is happening immediately and will be for all current full-time and part-time employees and new hires. The company has not specified what it means by “front-line worker,” but the increases work out to be around $1.60 to $2.20 per hour.

This comes at a time where many businesses are struggling to find workers. These new job opportunities will help bring the jobless rate down. The increase in wages can act as an incentive for people who currently do not have a job.
