    On Monday, Israeli archaeologists discovered a trove of early Islamic gold coins while they excavated Yavne’s central city. Israel archaeologists Liat Nadav-Ziv and Elie Haddad said a total of 425 complete gold coins were found dating back to the Abbasid period, 1,100 years ago, a rare find. 

    Hundreds of smaller clippings from gold coins that would have been used as smaller denominations were also found in the excavation.
