With the delayed Tokyo Summer Olympics set to start next week, Beijing made sure to display their preparation for the Winter Games is still on Schedule. Even with the uncertainty of the pandemic, journalists were taken on a tour to see the snow event venues in the city of Zhangjiakou.  They were shown the locations for ski jumping, snowboarding, and nordic events.

China has done well eliminating the local transmission of COVID-19, but it still maintains strict quarantine regulations. Organizers and the IOC have not announced if fans will be allowed or if rules will be in effect for athletes and coaches. With the uncertainty, Jia Maoting, general manager of the company doing construction of the venues said “We built good venues in any case and then we wait and expect a good result.”

Beijing hosted the 2008 Summer Olympics and will be the first city to host the Winter Games as well. Many of the events will be in Zhangjiakou about 200 kilometers to the west of Bejing. The two cities are connected by a highway and high-speed rail line.
