    After a summer Olympics with empty stands in Tokyo, spectators will be allowed at the Winter Olympics in February but tickets will be restricted to those from mainland China. The International Olympic Committee announced residents of mainland China can attend both Winter Games and the Paralympic Winter Games.

    The IOC released a statement that said “Tickets will be sold exclusively to spectators residing in China’s mainland, who meet the requirements for the COVID-19 countermeasures.” Specific countermeasures for fans and the details of ticket arrangements are still being finalized. The IOC explained there will “closed-loop” system that will serve as a pandemic bubble for athletes, support staff, and attendees.

    The news release said “All athletes and Games participants who are gully vaccinated will enter the closed-loop management system upon arrival. Games participants who are not fully vaccinated will have to serve a 21-day quarantine upon arrival in Beijing,” Every participant travelling to the Games will still be in Bejing 2022-contracted hotels that follow pandemic restrictions.
