After three and a half-hour’s of tennis against Greece’s Maria Sakkari, Bianca Andreescu gets knocked out of the U.S. Open. Former champion Andreescue lost Monday 6-7(2) 7-6(6) 6-3 to the Greek who will move onto the quarter-finals. The match on Arthur Ashe Stadium concluded at 2:13 a.m. which is the latest finish to a women’s singles match on hardcourt major.

After the match, Sakkari told reporters that “I actually think I have a very bad record with night matches,… When I found out yesterday I’m playing at night, I was not happy at all because I’m an early morning person. I still haven’t figured out how I have to plan my day.”

This is Andreescu’s first loss at Flushing Meadows, she was injured in the middle of the competition but continued to keep fighting. In the first set, Sakkari hit a trio of double faults giving the Canadian an early break. Ansreescu then won a grueling 21-shot rally to start the first-set tiebreak and then won the set with an ace.
