Currently, the gold-medal game is scheduled to begin Friday at 11 a.m. local time. Sweden is asking to reschedule with Canada’s support as there are concerns about excessive heat. The national organization said the “health and safety” of the players is the reason for their request.

The temperatures today during the men’s decathlon 100 metres was around 33 C. With humidity as a factor the temperature actually felt closer to 47 C. The Canadian organization said “Canada Soccer is also in support of changing the kickoff time of the gold medal match at the Tokyo 2020 Women’s Olympic Football Tournament to ensure the health and safety of our players,”

The team’s requested to change the time of the game to Friday at 5 p.m. so it is not right in the afternoon. However, this would cause conflicting events, as the track competition is scheduled for Friday night at the same stadium. This is Canada’s first Olympic final in Women’s soccer and could potentially be their first gold. Sweden is ranked three spots ahead of Canada at No.5 in the world.
