Starting April 1st, Canada will stop its pre-entry COVID-19 testing mandates for fully vaccinated travellers. Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos said with vaccination rates high and COVID-19 cases stable, the federal government is now comfortable with removing some restrictions.

Duclos explained “I think it’s fair to say we are now entering into a transition phase of this pandemic,… We are now ready to announce further changes to border measures.” As of right now, travellers must demonstrate proof of a negative antigen or molecular test prior to their flight or arrival at the border. That specific testing requirement will be lifted by April 1 for fully vaccinated individuals.

This change comes two years into the pandemic as provinces and territories end their own restrictions and mandates. Many provinces have dropped the vaccine passport system and some will soon drop the mask mandates.
