Despite the opening ceremony starting on Friday, Canadian athletes will be up and running tomorrow morning. Canada’s softball team will be facing off against Mexico on Wednesday afternoon Tokyo time. People living in Eastern Time would have to wake up very early to watch the game live.

The Canadian team includes four players who played in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where they placed fourth in softball. The next Canadian event will be at 6:30 a.m. E.T. with Canada taking on Japan in women’s soccer. Canada has a total of eight entries in team sports which is women’s soccer, basketball, softball, rugby sevens and water polo as well as men’s volleyball, field hockey and rugby sevens.

All those teams qualified for the Tokyo Summer Games before the pandemic happened. The opening ceremony is scheduled for Friday at 7 a.m. E.T.  The Olympic Games will run until August 8 and then the Paralympic Games will start on August 24.
